Administration Charge
Administration Charge
We do not apply any administration, booking, or processing fees.
The price confirmed at the time of booking is the price you pay for the room. Any other charges will only be for agreed-upon services or amenities consumed during your stay (e.g., bar, restaurant, etc.).
We do not charge an amendment fee for changes to flexible bookings (subject to rate difference and availability).

Arrival and Check-out
Arrival and Check-out
Check-in is available from 15:00 and check-out is until 11:00. We do offer early check-in, however this is subject to availability. If this is something you would like to request, please contact the hotel directly via email: frontdesk@yorkplace-edinburgh.co.uk. Late check-out is possible up until a maximum time of 14:00. This is subject to availability, and is charged at a rate of £35 per additional hour requested.

Cancellations
Cancellations
Cancellation terms vary depending on the rate type selected at the time of booking. Please refer to the specific rate conditions outlined during the booking process and in your confirmation email.
Flexible Rates: Cancellations or modifications may be made free of charge up to 24 hours prior to arrival. Modifications are subject to availability and may incur an increase in your rate. Cancellations made after this period will incur a charge equivalent to one night’s stay.
Non-Refundable Rates: Full prepayment is required at the time of booking for Advance Purchase Rates. Cancellations, modifications, or no-shows are non-refundable.
Guests are responsible for reviewing the cancellation terms applicable to their selected rate. If you have any questions regarding your booking or the associated cancellation policy, please contact our front office team.

Food
Hotel Provided Food and Meals
This section clarifies what guests are paying for and the terms of meal services offered by The Place Hotel.
Meals Included in Rate:
Unless explicitly stated in your booking confirmation (e.g., “Bed & Breakfast” or “Half Board”), your room rate covers accommodation only. Any other food, drink, or meals consumed at the hotel’s restaurant, bar, or via room service must be paid for separately and will be charged to your room folio.
Restaurant and Bar Policies:
All reservations for hotel restaurants and bars are subject to specific operating hours, availability, and their own terms, which may include separate cancellation policies for dining reservations, mandatory service charges, or dress codes.
7. Outside Food and Beverage (F&B)
This section defines the hotel’s policy regarding food and drink brought in by guests, primarily for safety and revenue protection.
Consumption in Guest Rooms:
Guests are permitted to bring and consume outside food and non-alcoholic beverages within their own booked guest room. Guests are responsible for properly disposing of all waste in the bins provided.
Prohibited Items in Guest Rooms:
To ensure guest safety and prevent damage, guests are strictly prohibited from bringing or using cooking appliances, portable heating devices, open-flame items (e.g., candles, induction cooktops, or BBQs) within the hotel or guest rooms. Any violation may result in the immediate cancellation of the booking and a cleaning charge/fine of £150.
Public Areas and Delivery:
Outside food and beverages, including food deliveries, are not permitted to be consumed in the hotel’s public areas, including the lobby, restaurant, or bar. For food deliveries, guests are required to meet the delivery driver at the main hotel entrance or a designated collection point. The Place Hotel staff will not accept deliveries on the guest’s behalf.
Outside Alcohol:
Due to local licensing laws, guests are strictly prohibited from consuming outside alcoholic beverages in any public area of the hotel, including the lobby, bar, or dining outlets. Outside alcohol may only be consumed within the privacy of the guest room.
Food Allergies and Dietary Requirements (Liability Disclaimer)
This is a critical section for liability, as hotels must address the inherent risks of food preparation.
Notification of Allergies:
It is the sole responsibility of the guest to clearly inform the hotel staff (e.g., restaurant server, front desk, or event coordinator) of any known food allergies, sensitivities, or dietary requirements before placing an order for any food or beverage consumed on the premises.
8.2. Limitation of Guarantee:
The Place Hotel operates kitchens and food preparation areas that handle all 14 major allergens (including, but not limited to, gluten, nuts, dairy, and eggs). While every reasonable effort is made to accommodate dietary requests, we cannot guarantee that any item prepared in our facilities will be completely free of all allergens due to the risk of airborne or cross-contact contamination during food storage, preparation, and service.
8.3. Guest Acknowledgement:
By ordering and consuming food or beverages at The Place Hotel, the guest acknowledges and accepts this risk. The Hotel shall not be liable for any adverse reactions resulting from the consumption of hotel-prepared food where the guest was either adequately warned or failed to notify staff of the allergy or dietary requirement prior to placing the order.

We love animals, but we do not allow pets at any time within the hotel, including guest rooms and common areas. Thank you for your understanding.

We guarantee that you will always find the best publicly available rate directly on our official website.
If you find a cheaper, equivalent rate on one of our trusted partner sites, please contact us directly and we will be happy to match the lower rate.

As an A-listed Georgian townhouse in Edinburgh city centre, we pride ourselves on our historic character. We are committed to welcoming all guests and making reasonable adjustments to ensure your comfort.
Please Note the Following:
Historic Limitations: Due to our protected A-listing, original features such as staircases and narrower doorways remain. Full modern accessibility standards cannot be met in all areas.
Accessible Rooms: We offer a limited number of accessible bedrooms designed for ease of use. These must be booked specifically.

While we do not have on-site parking, guests of The Place Hotel can enjoy 40% off at the St James Quarter Car Park.
Simply collect your discount voucher from our front desk team during your stay.

Smoking
Smoking
For the comfort and safety of all our guests, smoking or vaping is strictly prohibited inside the hotel at all times.
We have a dedicated smoking area on our Terrace for your convenience.
Please note: A £150 cleaning charge will be applied if smoking or vaping occurs in any indoor area of the hotel.

To ensure security and efficiency, we only accept payment by card.
Accepted Cards: We accept most major credit and debit cards, including Visa and Mastercard.
Card Restriction: Please note that we DO NOT accept American Express (Amex) due to transaction processing limits.
Booking & Payment:
Booking Security: For all direct bookings, your card details are taken solely to secure your reservation. Your card will only be charged in accordance with our cancellation policy (e.g., for no-shows or late cancellations).
Payment Timing: You are welcome to pay on arrival at the hotel. Alternatively, you may pay over the phone in advance of your stay.
Important Note: We do not accept telephone payments on the day of arrival. All payments on the day must be made at the Reception desk upon check-in.
No Cash/Cheques: We do not accept cash, cheques, or bank transfers for final payment at the property.
